Harris Theater, Pittsburgh, PA

"Built in 1931, when it was then known as Art Cinema, it was the first Pittsburgh venue to show only "art movies," and was the perfect place to do our thing and end our tour on October 5th - a live show with SUE-C's visuals and Ryan Worsley's STAND BY FOR FAILURE documentary.
Thanks so much to Joseph Morrison of the Harris for having us, Steven Haines and Pittsburgh Sound + Image for hooking us up with the Harris and helping promote the event, PJ Gaynor for the 100 feet of HDMI cable, to Hollowood Music and Sound for the speakers and subwoofer, Will Ashton and Trey Duplain for theater support, and Aaron Kostial for help with the merch table and setting up the sound. Team effort!!

saw this at the movie theater in the mall. that’s right near the food court so i got a teriyaki chicken and fried rice from the teppanyaki place right before and that was pretty good.
negativland’s current form did a Q&A after the movie and then performed. one of them, i missed who it was, said they were going to cheesecake factory while we watched the film. as is typical with Q&As the celebrity-punishers got their chance to shine and nobody even asked what kind of cheesecake they got.
the performance was in the same corporate ass mall movie theater in the narrow area in front of the front row of movie viewing seats. it was rad and the audio and visuals got more and more harrowing and bleak as the show progressed. no spoilers from me, go see one of the dates they’re doing this if you can catch it. gorgeous stuff really dark and makes you feel real bad but in a nice familiar way. shocked and thrilled they came through st. louis.
can’t help comparing here due to temporal proximity: i bet the Eno doc guy wishes his movie was this random. also it reminded me of when the todd haynes “experimental” VU documentary came out and was just disappointingly normal - but i had expected an “experimental” documentary to be something more like this! an onslaught of footage and music and general audiovisual information and poetic film collage work that was extremely well composed and balanced. freakin killer music as one would expect. loved it, even when it did the thing i dislike of going a bit further into the recent past than was really necessary. really all around great to view/listen to/chuckle at

I was thrilled to return to the Oak Cliff Film Festival with Negativland after beginning this project at that very festival 9 years prior. It was a packed screening with a fantastic, loud audience. Thanks to everyone to organized and attended, and made a memorable and meaningful event!
